SOURCES & METHODS

How we count

This is a manually curated, incomplete index of publicly reported firearm injuries in Lowndes County, Georgia. It is not an official crime rate, a complete homicide tally, or a live police feed.

People and incidents are different

One incident can involve several people. “People shot” equals reported fatal plus nonfatal gunshot injuries in the selected records. Fatalities are included in people shot, not added a second time. Counts reflect the cited reports as reviewed; later outcomes may differ.

Keep classifications separate

Alleged criminal shootings, reported accidental shootings, and law-enforcement shootings are separate categories. The dashboard does not equate every firearm death with a criminal homicide. No claim of guilt is made.

Dates, places, and gaps

We use the incident date where stated and clearly label a publication date fallback. Place labels follow the source; the county/south Lowndes grouping is not a verified municipal-boundary determination. Months with no indexed reports are unknown, not zero. Future months are not counted. No rate comparisons are made from this incomplete archive.

Sources and updates

Each record includes its supporting source and review date. Official releases take priority; republished releases and attributed local reporting are labeled. This first version contains four reports reviewed October 13, 2026. Data is updated manually; there is no automatic monitoring or submission inbox.
